The role

Zoox is building the world's first purpose-built robotaxi, and our ability to scale safely to new geographies and driving challenges depends on our capacity to measure and understand autonomous vehicle behavior. We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Autonomy Integration Metrics team, where you will partner closely with behavior engineers and product stakeholders to develop and implement the metrics that define how well our system drives.

Requirements

In this role you will :: Design, develop, and implement quantitative behavior metrics that assess AV performance across diverse driving scenarios and geofences Build and maintain data pipelines and dashboards to track simulation and fleet metrics across geographies and software versions Identify performance gaps and regressions by analyzing large-scale vehicle logs and simulation data Drive the definition of metric thresholds and acceptance criteria to support geofence expansion decisions Communicate findings and metric frameworks clearly to technical and non-technical audiences Qualifications:: B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent experience) 5+ years of experience in data science, with a focus on metric design and development or performance evaluation Strong proficiency in Python in production environments with standard repo practices Experience working with time-series or sensor data; familiarity with robotics or AV data is a plus Ability to work cross-functionally and distill complex technical requirements from diverse stakeholders Bonus Qualifications:: Proficiency in C++ Experience with simulation-based validation and metrics
